An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Learning and Development Unit at West Gippsland Healthcare Group in the role of Respiratory Protection Program Officer.
Reporting to the Learning and Development Manager, you will work within a motivated and dedicated team that provides support to the organisation over a wide range of education and development services, including but not limited to, in-service education, development and delivery of training programs, competency assessments, supervision of student placements and staff development education.
We are seeking expressions of interest from motivated, experienced and enthusiastic people with a passion for learning and development to work collaboratively within our Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) at West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG), with a focus on Mask Fit Testing designed to protect workers from workplace respiratory hazards including COVID-19, airborne infectious agents, dust and other particles. This is underpinned by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) issued Guidelines and implementation plan.
The role has oversight of the Mask Fit Testing Program - ensuring employees within WGHG are identified and provided with RPE, receive annual testing, training/education support, and collaboration between Mask Fit Testing team and other areas/stakeholders to achieve identified outcomes.
This stimulating role would suit an experienced person who is flexible, solutions focused, commitment to quality, willingness to accept a challenge and enjoys working within a team that is dedicated to providing great service to their client group.

Our preferred candidate will have:
- Relevant experience with respiratory protection requirements
- A willingness to learn the required standards and processes regarding RPP and fit testing including understanding of effectiveness of close-fitting respiratory protection

- Stakeholder engagement and management: collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders; engage and influence across all levels of staff; and, understand and navigate the conflicting needs of different groups

- Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

This would entail working with Learning and Development Unit to provide support to our Clinical Educators within clinical areas via hands on teaching, mentoring and guidance to all Nurses including Graduate Nurses, Postgraduate Nursing students and Registered Nurses to further develop:

- Support for acquisition of clinical skills
- Supporting continuing professional development
- Providing clinical supervision
- Supporting formal education programs
Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an interest in clinical education and support of students and Graduates, as well as holding multiple clinical competencies. It is advantageous if an applicant is a current assessor, although training can be provided for a suitable applicant. Eligibility As per PMCV Computer Match guidelines, you must be either:
- A Victorian trained Nursing/Midwifery Graduate (citizen/permanent resident)

West Gippsland Health Group currently have opportunities in out Maternity & Gynaecology Unit for Registered Midwives on fixed term contracts to work with us in our clinics, extended postnatal care and on our birthsuite and postnatal unit. The Registered Midwife demonstrates competence in the provision of quality midwifery care to mothers and babies, and assumes responsibility for the plan of care, has the authority to make and is held accountable for patient care, management decisions specific to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the plan.
These positions are for 12 months (commencing October 2021 onwards) and will be appointed on a fixed term full time or fixed term part time basis. Part Time contracts of between 16 and 38 hours per week will be available. Exact hours will be negotiated with successful applicants. Casual positions are also available.
Our preferred candidate will have:
- Current registration as a Registered midwife with AHPRA
- Demonstrated sound level of midwifery skills and works within safe principles
- Understanding of and commitment to the Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI)
- Understanding of current midwifery practice, including the Department of Health’s Victorian Maternity and Newborn Services Framework
- Commitment to flexibility and innovation in practice including an evidence-based approach to care
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated written and computer skills at the level required to fulfil the role
